The year is 1817. Sex outside of marriage is an actionable crime--not abortion. "Behind the Scarlet Letter" tells the true story of a Connecticut teenager's pregnancy and coerced abortion, her love affairs with a minister and a doctor, and an engaging alternative to "The Scarlet Letter" by Nathaniel Hawthorne. Told from multiple points of view, the novel tackles the serious, highly charged subject of abortion in early 19th century America and the emotional toll it has on everyone involved.
