A comedic-poetic sequel to Being Eight Is Great, Being Nine Seems Fine has our birthday girl pondering that maybe a colorful picture book is not the proper setting for someone her age. "I wonder if in this book pictures should be shown, because I'm older now and I have grown." She figures it is acceptable though explaining, "Maybe it's okay when mixed in with a rhyme, but maybe this should be the very last time." A new character is introduced: a boy by the name of Small Clyde, who seems to do everything he can to ruin the birthday girl's special day. She explains, "He cheats at the games he thinks he has won, it's hard to believe he's some nice parents' son. " In the end, Small Clyde makes a surprisingly incredible rescue and saves the day, and finally, it does seem that being nine seems fine.
