It was founded in 1948 at the site of the Arab village Bayt Dajan by Yemenite and North African immigrants. It was declared a local council in 1958. Its end of 2009 population was 6,800. Beit Dagan's central neighborhood is Neve Hadarim. Other neighborhoods are Neve Ganim, Bnei Bitkha and Nekudat Hen. Beit Dagan is the home of the Israel Meteorological Center and used as a central focus of weather data.
