Richard V. Francaviglia is a professor of history and geography at the University of Texas at Arlington and serves as director for the Center for Greater Southwestern Studies and the History of Cartography. He is the author of seven books, including "The Cast Iron Forest: A National and Cultural History of the North American Cross Timbers."
