Bending behaviour of fabrics is a complex phenomena involving interaction of many structural and process variables. Over the years, many theoretical and empirical prediction models on bending have been developed, but with limited success. This book explores the application of soft computing methodologies in predicting the bending property of woven fabrics. In this work, the application of soft computation methodologies like neural networks, genetic algorithms and neuro-fuzzy systems has been explored in detail to find potential solution to this problem. Various independent and dependent fabric structural factors have been considered in developing prediction models. The robustness of the developed models has been verified by sensitivity analysis and ranking methods. Prediction methodologies are compared in terms of their learning performance and prediction potential. The results obtained from this work will have immense significance in realising the dream of engineering based design of textile fabrics. This book will be of interest to research students, teachers and fabric designers of textile industry.
