Boda-boda taxi enterprise is fast growing in Kenya. There are over 5000 motorbike and bicycle boda-boda taxis operators in Kisumu municipality alone. However, the association between boda-boda taxi and economic empowerment had not been investigated, especially in Kisumu municipality. Yet boda-boda taxi has been touted as a viable means for empowering youth economically. The study specifically determined the association between boda-boda taxis and income, business development, assets and economic security through a cross sectional survey design, on a sample of 357 boda-boda taxi operators. The study found a significant relationship between boda-boda taxi operation and income, F (1, 300) = 6.196, = t (300) = 2.489, p = .013; adj. R2 = .017; assets, F (1, 300) = 7.211, t (300) = 2.685, p = .008, adj. R2 = .200; and economic security, F (1, 300) = 16.606, t (300) = -4.075, p = .000, adj. R2 = .049. However, there was significant relationship with business development, F (1, 300) = 1.742, t (300) = 1.320, p = .188. The study concludes that boda-boda taxi operation have a significant influence on the economic empowerment of boda-boda taxi operators in Kisumu municipality.
