He also earned Academic All-American honors and was elected to the College Football Hall of Fame in 2005.The 10th pick in the 1st round of the 1979 NFL draft, he was chosen by the Detroit Lions where he played his entire career. Dorney received numerous honors as a professional, including Pro Bowl, All-NFC, and team MVP honors, and served as team captain from 1983-1987.Post-football, Dorney turned to writing and teaching.
