Lafe Low, a lifelong New Englander, spends nearly all of his free time outside-skiing, hiking, skiing, camping, skiing, kayaking, skiing . . . you get the picture. He has nearly reached his goal of having his garage look like an Eastern Mountain Sports or REI store. After earning a bachelor of arts degree in journalism from Keene State College in 1984, Lafe went to work in the magazine world. After working for a variety of technology publications, he launched his own magazine, Explore New England, in 1995. This was truly the crossroads of his personal and professional passions. After Explore New England, he went on to be the editor of Outdoor Adventure and an editor with Globe Pequot Press. While he is now back in the technology world, he still writes about the outdoors to feed his passion. His first book, Best Tent Camping: New England, was first published in 2002. The fourth edition was published in 2012. Best Hikes of the Appalachian Trail: New England is his second book, and certainly not his last. He lives in the Boston area.
