Protein starvation is causing a most serious malnutrition problem of the mankind and particularly in developing countries. The pulse crops are the second most important group of crops after cereals, and in general, rich in protein and contributing the major protein dietaries especially for vegetarian communities. The pulse production can be increased either through increase in area or productivity to meet the demand of future generation. In high rainfall areas, some areas can be converted into double cropping with pulse crop like chickpea as it is hardy and thrive well even under water stress conditions. It is a prime crop of rabi season and mainly grown as rainfed in many parts of the state.
