Born in a small town in Oklahoma, Mike lived a Norman Rockwell lifestyle in his early years. As a result of several family tragedies, Mike developed a severe speech impediment. In Mike's eighth year, the family moved to Baton Rouge, Louisiana so his father could work in a family business. Learning the Deep South way of life, he grew up going to Catholic schools, always having problems in social situations while enduring the stigma of stuttering. After finishing high school, he attended and graduated from Louisiana State University. He then enjoyed a thirty-five year career in retail management and business ownership. Upon retirement, Mike began to explore a lifetime desire to write. This effort has lead to his completion of two fictional novels, short stories and essays. Subsequently, this writing has resulted in this personal story of his early life through adolescence. Told with humor, candor and empathy, the reader can follow the road of Mike's growth and development. Mike lives in Kerrville, in the heart of the Texas Hill Country, with Jan, his wife of more than 50 years.
