That situation is not without consequences for the academic performance of school children. Many African children repeat grades or dropout of school because they do not understand the curriculum which is taught in a foreign language. It will contribute to reducing the rate of dropout and the promotion of the local culture.

Niamboue A. Bado is a doctoral student in the College ofEducation and Human Services at Ohio University, Athens, USA. Heholds a Master's degree in Linguistics from Ohio University and aBachelor's degree in Education from Juniata College, USA. Badocame to the United States as a Fulbright Scholar from BurkinaFaso in 2005.
