He worked at the University of Cambridge and then the London School of Economics as the Cassell Professor of Commercial Law. After graduating in law from Queens'' College, Cambridge, he served in the RAF for two years. Since then, he has had a long career in labour law, created a life peer with the title Baron Wedderburn of Charlton , of Highgate in the County of Greater London in 1977. He is an Honorary Associate of the National Secular Society and a Distinguished Supporter of the British Humanist Association.
