Billie is a girl from the wrong side of the tracks, willing to do anything to escape her abusive family and the desperate poverty they live in. Franck is a bright and sensitive boy damaged by a bigoted father and a mother anesthetised by anti-depressants. Ostracised and bullied at school, they find each other when a drama project requires them to perform an iconic piece of French literature... The story of their friendship is told by Billie in flashbacks, when she and Franck are trapped in the Cevennes Mountains.
