Soyabean has gained recognition as a food source of immense health benefits. It is a unique food because of its rich phytonutrient content; namely high biological value protein, isoflavones, complex carbohydrates and dietary fiber content which contributes to their low glycemic index which benefit diabetic individuals and reduce the risk of developing diabetes. Probiotics have also received considerable attention over the past few years for their purported health benefits. Taking into consideration the importance of soya foods and probiotics in the current functional food context, the present study was undertaken to develop probiotic enriched soya based probiotic enriched soya based products and to envisage their synbiotic impact in non- insulin dependent diabetic subjects. Both the experimental diets i.e. probiotic enriched soya mix and soya and fingermillet mix were were able to exert sufficient glucose lowering effects as revealed from the reduction in the postprandial glycemic, fasting glucose and glycaated hemoglobin in type 2 diabetic subjects. Thus it can be inferred that the developed product could produce a synbiotic impact for promotion of health in health in Diabetes.
