Large tons of cassava and corn cob wastes are discarded annually in Nigeria while the major food products are processed to various food items. Corn flour, a major food product is used in this research in comparison with cassava peels and corn cob in their utilization for ethanol production. Moreover, this waste ends up in open dumps or drainage systems, threatening both surface water and ground water quality. It is therefore considered necessary to convert these wastes to useful end products rather than allowing them to become pollutants in the environment.
