Chickpea (Cicer arietinum) belongs to the family Leguminosae. It is widely cultivated in India, Australia, Pakistan, Turkey, Myanmar, and Ethiopia. It is an important cool season pulse crop and is also called Bengal gram. In terms of pulse production, India contributes about 25% to the total global pulses production.
