Autorenporträt
Josephine Brown (1839-1874) was an African American writer and youngest daughter of abolitionist and lecturer, William Wells Brown. She was raised in Massachusetts where she was educated, alongside her sister, at a boarding school. During her youth, Josephine would attend her father's many speaking engagements. She eventually joined him in his efforts as a teacher and antislavery lecturer. In an effort to preserve William's legacy, Josephine wrote Biography of an American Bondman, which was published in 1855.
