The ionizing radiation need to be carefully handled as these are potentially dangerous for human beings. The exposure in an uncontrolled way is capable of causing long lasting and hazardous health effects. The important factors which can significantly reduce the biological hazards are the effectiveness and amount of shielding placed around the radiation source. The conventional shields (concretes) have a lot of cement content and can partly replaced by flyash and for attaining effective shielding, the different admixtures can be used along with flyash. It is also necessary to study the mechanical aspect of concretes, only then it can be termed as reliable and substitute to traditional shielding materials. This study is an attempt to look for better and safe alternative eco-friendly concretes to standard available materials used for radiation shielding.
