This text introduces the fundamental concepts of biochemistry and kinetic models of biodegradation followed by biological wastewater treatment, the design of aerobic, sedimentation and stabilization lagoons, including the calculation of design parameters, kinetics, aerator power, lagoon sizing, aerator power, sludge production and performance by this type of biological treatment.

Javier Christian Ramírez Pérez è ingegnere chimico, con un master e un dottorato in ingegneria e scienze ambientali (Rutgers University, NJ-USA). Area di ricerca: Biotecnologie ambientali, Chimica ambientale e Sviluppo energetico sostenibile. Attualmente è visiting professor presso il dipartimento di fisica dell'Università di San Paolo (Brasile).
