Biomarkers are functional elements at the cellular or molecular level, playing important roles in health and spectrum of disease. They are being extensively used in research and it has been a boon in the medical field for screening, diagnosis, prognosis and treatment.The application of biomarkers in the diagnosis and management of cardiovascular disease, infections, immunological, genetic disorders and cancer are well known.1,3 The rapid growth of molecular biology and laboratory technology has expanded to the point at which the application of technically advanced biomarkers will soon become even more feasible.4-8 The use of biomarkers in basic and clinical research as well as in clinical practice has become so common that their presence as primary endpoints in clinical trials is now accepted almost without question.
