The replacement of lost teeth with dental implants is an effective and acceptable treatment modality. This is defined as osseointegration and is the direct association of osseous tissue with an inert alloplastic biomaterial surface. With the advancement of medical research, biomaterial science and technology, an improvement in the knowledge of oral health and an increase in the average life expectancy, there is a growing demand for the design and development of implants with improved longevity, minimum failure rates and expanded use.
