Three genera of bacteria(Deinococcus radiodurans, Shewanella oneidensis, and Bacillus thuringiensis)have been isolated from soils in Basra- Iraq. These bacteria showed high tolerance for Pb and Cd with the possibility of being exploited in bioremediation in two routes, bioaccumulation and biosorption. The three types of bacteria have biosorption ability exceeding their bioaccumulation ability. In bioaccumulation experiments, TEM has been decisive in showing these bacteria of differed abilities to accumulation Pb and Cd. Appling of the advanced tools of FTIR and XRD has been crucial for confirming differential biosorption abilities for Pb and Cd especially B. thuringiensis. So it can be used in situ bioremediation after increasing its biomass construction of large scale bioreactor.
