It is the second longest, venomous snake in the world only to the King Cobra. The black mamba, as adults, are on average about 2.5 meters in length, but some can grow as large as 4.3 meters. The snake's body color can range from a dark olive, olive green, to a greyish brown color. Some individuals even have a light band that wraps around their body. As the black mamba ages, its skin begins to darken. The name "black mamba" originated from the infamous ink black color of the snake's mouth.
