Lara Ige knew when she was young that she wasn't quite the same as everyone else in local environment in Nigeria, where she was born. Other children and even some adults would call her 'oyinbo,' a nickname that literally meant 'white-skinned one.' As a teenager, her mother, Eunice, finally revealed the story that gave birth to Lara and her mixed ethnicity-the story about how she and a young Irishman had fallen in love, and how by the time Eunice realized she was pregnant, the young Irishman had already left Nigeria, losing all contact with her. Once Lara is older, she moves to Ireland to study medicine, eventually settling into the country, landing a full-time job at a hospital, and getting engaged to an Irishman. But when she flies Eunice over for her wedding and a minor injury prompts Lara take her to the hospital, fate steps in with its own romantic plans . . .
