Autorenporträt
About the Author Dennis Maurice (He, Him, His) is an author, convener, philanthropist, and advocate for Black freedom born and raised in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. His thought leadership and writing are inspired by celebrating Black complexity; Black women; the politics of race; sexuality; the Black Christian church; queer resilience; and soul food. For more than 15 years Dennis has worked with communities that are systemically, historically, and currently oppressed as a storyteller and fundraiser. He has secured more than $38 million throughout his career. He is the founder of #InvestBLK, a consultancy & philanthropy that helps Black folk get closer to emptiness, vitiates anti-Blackness, and invests 75% of its profits in Black leaders, communities, and movements. He is a proud alumnus of South Philadelphia High School and Lincoln University of Pennsylvania, the nation's first degree granting Historically Black College and University, where he earned his bachelor's degree. He also earned an MBA in Global Finance from Saint Joseph's University with international residency in South America. In 2008, Dennis Maurice published, What My Colored Eyes See: The Words of a Decorated Child, a book of short stories and poetry addressing the assassination of Black bodies by police; the necessity of celebrating Blackness, Black women, and queerness; sexual freedom; and shame and assimilation in the Black community. He is the creator & producer of Journey 2 RAHA, an episodic documentary that followed the journey of a Black woman reviving her love of dance after a battle with life. In 2021, Dennis began Very Black Books, the publishing house for his writing and a repository of Black and Indigenous & POC authors, writers, and thinkers.
