Tessa Gratton wurde in Okinawa, Japan, geboren, als ihr Vater dort im Dienst der US Navy war. Mit ihrer Familie bereiste sie die Welt und studierte dann an der Universität von Kansas. Von klein auf wollte sie eigentlich Paläontologin oder Zauberin werden. Leider hat sich herausgestellt, dass sie zu ungeduldig ist, um Dinosaurier zu jagen, aber sie sucht noch immer jemanden, der ihr das Zaubern beibringen kann. Inzwischen lebt sie in Kansas, USA, mit ihrer Katze und ihrem Hund, und erzählt Geschichten vom Zaubern.
