Autorenporträt
When I was 18, one time at the beach I swam far out of sight of my French grandmother - much to her distress! Only later, when I had my own children, did I realize the risk I had taken, how little I knew about ocean tides and undertow, nasty fish, fast boats, etc. Sometimes you have to swim, sail or travel a great distance from home to understand what home is, and how important it is to you. Up close, life shocks, amazes and amuses. Time and distance have enabled me to better appreciate true friendships, learn how to survive great losses, and yet maintain a wide-eyed sense of adventure and discovery. Boomerang Girl is an exploration of how our experiences leave us and return later to us in a changed form, as in a familiar but distant landscape. Sometimes an event is as sharp and clear in the mind's eye as when it happened half a century ago, or longer; sometimes a taste, scent or sound will launch a proustian revelation of profound romantic or historical moment.
