Davidson was born in North Carolina and has grown up all over America. He lives with his parents and younger brother and sister, and his dad has been a Green Beret all of Davidson's life. Davidson's dad first left on deployment when Davidson was six months old. Since then, he has been deployed every year. Davidson began this book when he was six years old, and finished it when he was in first grade.
