He competed for the United States in the 1984 Summer Olympics held in Los Angeles, United States in the 3000 metre steeplechase where he won the bronze medal. He also ran in the 1988 Summer Olympics, finishing seventh in his semi final. He followed that by qualifying for the 1992 Olympics. He also won several The Athletics Congress (TAC) and U.S. Track and Field (USATF) championships over that time.
