Bright Star of Briar is the first epic book in The Rings of Fate, introducing the Archer people as the lost link between elves and men and the druids of the Avaltriki who guide them in their quest to save the world from the dark mind of Svarangr, whose golden ring of power will either be their undoing or their salvation. This scene will of course sound familiar and the similarities to Lord of the Rings are there in this first book but as events move on, increasing differences become apparent. Who is Svarangr the Dread Lord? Where did the power of his ring come from? Is it innately evil? Will dumb luck save the Archers and their long-held friends or a deep commitment to understanding their circumstances and the world they live in? Will magic live on in the world of Midgard or will it fade into obscurity? >
