The aim of this study wa to identify academic factors, which negatively affect female students, enrolled in the Department of Sociology at the University of ZImbabwe. It was also to gain insights on how the female students overcome the factors influencing their academic studies at the same time asses the availability, access and affordability of support services at the University of Zimbabwe for female students. The study mainly utilized qualitative research methodology to gain qualitative data for the analysis of it within the conceptual framework of Affirmative Action. This entailed interviewing departmental academic staff as well as students within the Department of Sociology before discussing and analyzing the findings to drawing the conclusions and the recommendations.

Tafadzwa is a Social Scientist based at the University of Zimbabwe.He holds an MSc Degree in Urban Management and Development from Erasmus University in the Netherlands and an MSc Degree in Sociology and Social Anthropology from the University of Zimbabwe.His research focuses on understanding people in thier social worlds.
