Bronchoscopy has been an integral part of respiratory disorders practice in veterinary medicine since1970s. This work was done in Endoscopy unit, Dept. of Internal Medicine and Infectious diseases, faculty of veterinary medicine, Cairo University for the 1st time in Egypt and conducted on 97 dogs from different species, breeds, sex and localities during the period from 2003 to 2010, 73 healthy and 24 with respiratory illness. By using the standard system configuration which allows Observation (Diagnosis), BAL, and Photography from the eyepiece portion the work objectives achieved in terms of orientation of Bronchoscopy instrumentation and techniques, morphological studies of larynx, trachea and bronchial tree in healthy and diseased dogs, cytological studies of BAL of healthy and diseased dogs, the effect of age on bronchoscopic features of healthy dogs and grading of tracheal collapse in diseased dogs. Fiberoptic tracheobronchoscopy is a safe and rewarding technique for the diagnosis and management of a wide spectrum of respiratory tract diseases. Special techniques enhance the diagnostic spectrum of bronchoscopy include bronchoalveolar lavage.

Mohammad Refaat Khattab is a unique blend of experience representing a rule model as a scientist and leader; through working staff member in Faculty of Veterinary Medicine - Cairo University - Egypt since 1998 where he has completed his Ph.D in Small Animal Internal Medicine,and then Joined Texas A&M; CVM - USA in scholarship mission.
