Brothers of Kwanza: An African-American Male Self-Empowerment Group Process By: Jerrell J. Braxton, MSSW, CICSW This book is a step-by-step process of establishing a self-empowerment program for youth that can be used in schools and other youth organizations. This program specifically focuses on the plight of the African American Male, using Clinical, Educational and Cultural strategies. This program model operated successfully for twenty-three consecutive years in the Milwaukee Public School System. It is important to note that this model can be adapted to different youth demographics. About the Author Jerrell Braxton is a retired School Social Worker and Clinical Psychotherapist. He has won multiple awards for his exceptional work such as Wisconsin School Social Worker of the Year (first and only Black male); MPS's "Red Apple" Exceptional Education Award; Kwanza Leadership Award and Milwaukee Times, 27th Black Excellence Award, to name a few. Pictured with Jerrell Braxton are his four sons: Kareem, Shiron, Omar and Raymond Braxton along with his brother, Rasheed Sabir (RIP).
