Born in Rome, Giordano played for most of his career with Lazio, debuting in Serie A on 5 October 1975. He made his debut on the Italian national team in 1978, and soon revealed himself to be one of the most effective Italian strikers. In 1980 he was arrested for participating in a betting scandal and banned from the Italian championship until 1982. In 1985, after Lazio had been demoted to the Serie B, he was ceded to Napoli for 5 billion lire.
