It occurs in coniferous forests from south-eastern Arizona (Huachuca Mountains) and south-western New Mexico (Pinos Altos Mountains) southward in the Sierra Madre Occidental to the State of Durango in Mexico. The length of the forewings is 12-14 mm and the wingspan is 25-30 mm. Adults are on wing from mid-June to mid-July.A moth is an insect closely related to the butterfly, both being of the order Lepidoptera. Moths form the majority of this order; there are thought to be 150,000 to 250,000 different species of moth (about ten times the number of species of butterfly), with thousands of species yet to be described.
