Roskilde, Denmark is located just west of Copenhagen on island of Zealand. It¿s the business and educational centre for the region and the 10th largest city in Denmark. Now those things are just statistical facts. The main thing a kid will like about this city is you can go to the Viking Ship Museum and see well preserved 11th century Viking ships and have fun with some very interesting hands on educational and artistic experiences. In fact, you can even take up oars on a Viking ship, and build a ship, the perfect size for you to float in your bathtub! As you turn the pages of this ¿learn to read¿ book, you will see some of the things award winning author, attorney and former teacher, Penelope Dyan and photographer John D. Weigand saw as they walked along the streets of Roskilde on their way to the Viking museum, and you will also see some of what they saw at the museum! You see, around the year 1070, five Viking ships were sunk at Skuldelev in Roskilde Fjordi to block the entrance and protect Roskilde from enemy attack from the sea. Excavated in 1962, and you can now see them in the Viking Ship Museum. When you are finished reading, go to the Bellissimavideo YouTube channel and watch the free music video that goes with this book!
