I live in Scottsboro, Alabama, and am married with one son. My hobbies include reading, writing, hiking, backpacking, and movies. Over the past dozen years or so I have been using oral histories to preserve the memories and experiences of elderly peiple from this area. Information gained from these tapes sheds light on the local history and culture from many decades ago. This ongoing project has resulted in four books, including the recollections of a prominent attorney (James O. Haley,1999), growing up in the early twentieth century (Growing up Hard, 2003), the military experiences of veterans of WW II ((Fighting the Just War, 2005) and the current book involving the Korean conflict. Three of the books, including Building Bridges, have been sponsored by the Jackson County Historical Association, which shares in the profits. In the future, I hope to write a similar book about the experiences of area residents in the Vietnam War.
