The aim of this study was to investigate, through the discourse of the collective subject, how a group of religious women dealt with stress and how the dimensions that make up burnout - emotional exhaustion, depersonalisation and low achievement - could be revealed in the interviews. The religious women lived and worked in a favela in the centre of São Paulo, in precarious conditions, but they carried out their mission with dedication and heroism. This fact aroused the researcher's curiosity.
