An inductive research design was chosen to generate theoretical insights. Eight in-depth interviews were conducted with social entrepreneurs in a diversity of sectors of the social economy. The outcomes of the empirical fieldwork are a series of theoretical propositions on the experience of social entrepreneurs, which extend our analytical knowledge and provide supporting evidence for existing theories.
