L. Nathan Oaklander studied philosophy at the university of Iowa. He is a student of Gustav Bergmann, one of the most distinguished ontologist in 20th century philosophy.

Oaklander is professor of philosophy at the university of Michigan-Flint. He is president of the Philosophy of Time Society, editor of the journal CHRONOS, and one of the most distinguished philosophers in the area of ontology and philosophy of time.
