It's long over due for Charlotte, a five-year-old German Shepherd, to tell her story and the way that she has chosen to express herself is through the alphabet. She takes the reader on a ride about her daily interactions, favorite things, and special family and friend moments using the alphabet. For each letter of the alphabet, Charlotte has two experiences to discuss. Starting with the letter A, Charlotte explains how "A" is for alert and active. "B" is for breed and bark. Charlotte continues all the way to "Z" before finishing her first story. Although this is a fictional account of a dog because the story is told from the dog's perspective, it gives readers an inside look at the non-fictional life of a dog and could potentially help children pick a pet and understand the needs of a dog while at the same time build vocabulary. Students in primary grades will be exposed to works like energy, grooming, and zoom. In addtion, children will be able to see dogs in a variety of perspectives such as working dogs and friendship among dogs. There are multiple lessons that can be taught using this book. Certainly, science, social studies, and langauge could be taught.
