This book is mostly about my encounters or experiences with death: the death of a romantic friendship, the death of an expectation for a loved one, the death of an addictive habit, the death of a traumatic event, the death of some beloved heroes that broke our hearts, the death of a tragic marriage, the death of religion and its consequences, and the death of disillusionment with what we always thought America to be. As horrific and as horrifying as death can be, it is a natural part of life--making way for a new beginning or a fresh start when necessary. Step into the woods with me and wander around in my mind for what is surely my most bold and emotionally turbulent work of art.
