Reformed racketeer, Duke DeGrate, needs a triple bypass to save his life. When his eldest son, Councilman Derek Porter, seeks out and finds Dr. Angelique James, the politician falls in love with her and the two become engaged. In an effort to boost his popularity in the election for Mayoral office, Dr. James aims to save the infamous, war torn housing projects of Chicago, Illinois: Cabrini Green. Derek consents with the trivial condition that his brother, Darrion DeGrate, accompany the good doctor to keep her safe from harm. Amidst the crack epidemic and the most horrifying gang war in the city's history, Darrion begins to see his former gang ties coming back to haunt him. Worsening matters, when family monarch, Viola DeGrate, senses a growing passion between Angelique and Darrion, she sees the sordid family history of secrets, lies, and murder threatening to repeat itself. Here brother plots against brother; a father fights to save more than his own heart; and violent gangsters ascend from the most notorious housing projects in U.S. history to ravage the city. In the world of Cabrini Green only one thing is certain: The blackest ambitions and the coldest hearts will be the rise and fall of many.

Autorenporträt
ChaVohn Nakia is a healthcare professional and fiction writer in Los Angeles, California. She fired her first assault rifle at the age of 18, served six years of active duty in the Air Force from 1996 to 2002, and has been a combat-weapons-murder-death-kill-buff ever since. During her time in service she spent two years stationed in Okinawa, Japan where she gained her love for their disciplined art of the sword. She moved to Kansas City in 2003 where she studied creative writing at the University of Missouri Kansas City. Four years later in 2007, she moved to California. Ms. Nakia has a passion and extreme respect for various cultures and religions. This cultural interest remains a constant catalyst, sparking her passionate research to broaden her knowledge and understanding of criminal politics, various social convictions, and history. She enjoys the challenges of world building and intricate plots when it comes to her writing. Ms. Nakia is an eclectic reader of various non-fictions such as books on police procedure, true crime, sword making, anything on the writer's craft, and crime culture. Not content with her novella series alone, Ms. Nakia has currently begun her crime family saga series. The first, Cabrini Green Volume I: Return Of The Prince, is complete. The second, Cabrini Green Volume II: The Killing Fields, is currently in progress. Warwick Shackleford-Masters is her male alter ego. He prevents her from writing that boring, whiny Mary Sue character that most people hate-that annoying damsel in distress who gives real women a bad name. Ms. Nakia and Warwick are avid lovers of violent films in any genre-especially violent martial arts and they're pretty sure they've seen nearly every mafia flick ever made. When it comes to horror, they truly believe that fright on film these days is akin to chivalry-ergo it's dead. They don't have a dog yet, they loathe shopping at the mall, and they've never been to Disney World.
