Awhile back, Bill Neel lost his beloved support service dog, a Boston Terrier named Rocky, to an illness. Bill wasn't sure he could bond with another dog, but then a neighbor told him about a family with an extra-hyper dog that they couldn't control. That neighbor told those folks that Bill had just lost a support-service dog, so they called Bill and asked if he'd take their unruly pet. Bill was about to say, "No, I just can't do that right now," but then they said, "He's a Boston Terrier, an older one." Bill thought, Well, I'm an older person, and maybe Cactus and I could grow older together, since I'm in my eighties. That evening, they brought Cactus to Bill's home--and it felt like he'd always lived there. They told Bill to keep Cactus inside, as he might run away. "Oh, was that wrong!" Bill later said. "As time went along he just about caused me to run away." And that's how Cactus and his newfound human gave each other a new leash on life. Don't you just love happy endings?
