CAD/CAM has become an increasingly popular part of dentistry over the past 25 years. The technology which is used in both the dental laboratory and the dental office can be applied to inlays, onlays, veneers, crowns, fixed partial dentures, implant abutments and even full mouth reconstruction. CAD/CAM in dental technology was developed to solve 3 challenges. The first challenge was to ensure adequate strength of the restoration, especially for the posterior teeth. The second challenge was to create restorations with a natural appearance. The third challenge was to make tooth restorations easier, faster and more accurate.
