Pugh is a published scholar of religious studies and spirituality and the author of six previous academic books on subjects as diverse as theologians under Hitler, religion and science, and the creation of apocalyptic imagination, including Religionless Christianity: Dietrich Bonhoeffer in Troubled Times (2009) and Theology after You've Been Left Behind (2016).
