Weaves three generations of early Californians into one family. Traveling by sailing ship, covered wagon, paddlewheel steamer, and transcontinental train, all arrived in the Golden State between 1850 and 1919. In lives filled with grand schemes and broken dreams, they reached for the stars and fell back to earth. California bound them together.

Autorenporträt
Peter Pike Jr. is a fourth-generation Californian, who grew up in Marin County and attended the University of California, Berkeley. He served in the Peace Corps in Honduras (1965-67) and sailed across the Atlantic singlehanded (1972-1973). Now retired from a business career in commercial real estate, Peter lives with his wife, Dyan, in Greenbrae, California, and enjoys visits with their four grandsons. As Finn, Kai, Vincent, and Arthur set out on their own adventures in life, he wishes them fair winds and gentle seas.
