Plant cell, tissue and organ culture has emerged as a safe and low cost alternative system for the production and the accumulation of many valuable bio-active compounds because it can provide several benefits to minimise these problems and allowing the continuous, predictable, and reliable production of these molecules independently of seasonal variations under well controlled conditions. The present investigations optimised the production of anthraquinone in in vitro using callus culture in Gynochthodes umellata (L.) Razafim. & B. Bremer (Rubiaceae).
