Laurie Tevlin-Klemow was born in 1950 and grew up in Scranton, PA. Summers were always spent at Chapman Lake. The author encountered critters like groundhogs, crayfish, and monarch and viceroy butterflies. At Camp Archbald, a girl scout camp, Laurie experienced her first encounters with walking sticks (the insects) and praying mantises. The author has learned to respect and not be quick to judge all manner of life, and to instead learn from them, like with the Camel Cricket. Laurie is a scuba diver, and has had the privilege of diving with sharks, manta rays, different kinds of eels, a blue parrot fish, and many kinds of ocean life. Her favorite fish is the sharp-nosed puffer. Look it up! Laurie's experiences with creatures of all kinds also influenced her first children's book, The Bird Who Was Afraid of Heights.
