Most of the Rwandan refugees arrived in Cameroon in the aftermath of the 1994 Rwandan genocide and settled mainly in the cities of Yaoundé and Douala, where they enjoy good relations with the Cameroonian population as a whole. Assisted by the Cameroonian government, the UNHCR and other non-governmental organizations, Rwandan refugees have developed several income-generating activities that allow them to easily integrate into Cameroonian society. We can mention among others trade and gastronomy. AND if the actors of their management mechanism have so far made a lot of efforts to improve their daily living conditions, they are still exposed to a number of problems such as insecurity and unemployment.
